MY TOP TIPS ON HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR WEDDING PHOTOS

If your reading this, then your wedding day is soon approaching, having a camera aimed in your direction for hours is not something everyone is used to. It can be daunting, so here are some tips to help prepare yourself with.

1) BE YOURSELF

Don’t try to look or be anything other than yourself. Anxiety and self-conscious-ness will show, you need to be calm and not over-think or worry, the best of you will show through.

2) RELAX

Obviously everyone wants flattering photos, and are always their own worst critic, however it is important to remember to relax and have fun, and trust your photographer.

3) LAUGH

Remember it a special day, everyone looks good when laughing – and enjoy the moment!

4) CAUGHT UP IN THE MOMENT

Don’t look at your photographer, forget the camera is there, look at your spouse and savor the moment, capturing the romance, the excitement will look amazing and feel special when looking back in years to come.

5) PRE-ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Having a pre-engagement shoot will help you be more at ease with being in front of the camera with your partner, and getting used to your photographer. By the time the wedding comes, everyone can feel more relaxed and knows what to expect.

6) COMFORT

When preparing for an engagement shoot, remember to wear comfortable, flattering clothing, to help you feel more at ease.

7) PRACTISE IN THE MIRROR

It sounds silly, but practice and study your face, and figure out the best smile / angle / expression that suits you

8) THINK ABOUT POSITION / STRIKE A POSE

*To get the right position - make your neck more elongate, drop your shoulders and raise your chin.

*Don’t face head on – keep your shoulder to the camera, avoid facing the camera straight on (tuck into your partner slightly) *Don’t look down – To avoid double chin, the photographer will need to shoot from above the eye/face level.

Tilt the head a bit side wards (hide the chin) shooting from the side *Hand of Hip – will make the arm much more toned.

9) ANGLE YOURSELF

Balance your weight on your back foot, and cross the other foot in front of the other, slightly point your hip towards the camera at an angle, this will appear slimming, place your hands on your hips.

10) LIGHTING

Natural light is always beautiful and flattering, it makes the skin look amazing

*To avoid the squinty look, close your eyes and ask the photographer to let you know when the picture will be taken, then open your eyes - this will eliminate the “squinty” look, which also works if you wear glasses and do not want to wear them for portraits.

11) Make sure the reception is well lit

In all the wedding magazines, the best images are staged to have as much lighting as possible – consider hiring additional lights at the reception or ask whether the venue/DJ can assist?

Another idea would be to use spot light during the first dance / speeches . The pictures will be amazing!

12) BE HAPPY & HAVE FUN

I feel as if I may have said this already, but it is true! You should have an amazing time on your wedding day, every bride should feel beautiful! Be confident with yourself, your partner and the camer
